Watchet's Heritage - The Sanctuary

Watchet's Historical Buildings
Previous View

A building of some description has stood here from at least the Victorian period - built as an attachment to the main building. From old photographs it certainly seems to have always been a retail premises and clearly the archway suggests that this once gave access to horses from stables beyond.

For many years it was a newsagents and in the ownership of the well-known Tapp family. It was purchased a number of years ago by the local Baptists and reconfigured and renamed the Sanctuary. It now serves as a community hub welcoming everyone and regularly holds events including hosting affordable cooked meals which prove very popular.
